A central part of Riverview, Florida, Riverview High School is part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools district. The school, which opened in 1958, was designed to accommodate students in grades nine through twelve, and was finished in a very sleek and modern style. It was designed to provide plenty of natural light indoors, and was built to allow for adequate air ventilation without air conditioning.
The school is home to the largest Key Club in the state, and boasts a plethora of clubs for all interests. Students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, including soccer, basketball, football, track, golf and cheerleading. Aside from varsity sports, Riverview offers its students an opportunity to explore a variety of career paths. The school's IB program has six career-related tracks to choose from, including International Business, Engineering, Marine Science, and Computer Science.
The school's Media Center boasts a number of computers, which are available for use during class time. It also boasts a decent amount of printing capabilities. It is also home to a number of clubs and organizations, including the Student Council, which helps coordinate the various school wide events.
The school also has a Senior Board, a group of dedicated student leaders who act as an advisory to the administration. They plan events for the school and suggest items of interest to the student body. This is a great way to get involved and help the school achieve its goals.
One of the more popular clubs is the Optimists Club, a group of students who have a knack for fundraising. Their annual golf tournament, which starts at Buckhorn Springs Golf and Country Club in Valrico, is a popular fundraiser, bringing in thousands of dollars to benefit the school and the Stowers Elementary School. It also features a nice dinner and an awards ceremony.
The school's media center boasts several televisions and computers for students to use. It also has one of the largest libraries in the Hillsborough County Public Schools district. The Student Council does its best to ensure that all students are included and that all clubs and organizations are up to snuff. It also handles the more mundane tasks such as new student legislation and ensuring that clubs and organizations adhere to the school's policies and procedures. The best part of all is the camaraderie, and the opportunity to learn from your peers. It is also the only high school in the district that has its own Key Club. During the school year, the club has a number of events, including a Halloween party, Halloween costume contests, and a Christmas party.
